Gimli Viking Village
Welcome to the web page of the Gimli Viking Village.  On this page you will find a photo gallery and information about the Gimli Viking Village which is held annually at the Icelandic Festival of Manitoba, in Gimli, Manitoba on the August Civic Holiday weekend in Canada.  This is the first weekend of August each year.

In 2003, the idea of a living history display at the festival featuring viking reenactors came to life.   Harbour Park was selected as the location and in a joint venture between the New Icelandic Heritage Museum and the Icelandic Festival, the village was created.

Reenactors were contacted from around the world to participate in this display.  Over the years there have been participants from Iceland,  Canada(BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Newfoundland and the NWT), Sweden, Denmark, the United States and England.

The focus of the Village is on public education and interaction.  Reenactors in historically correct clothing present daily life of the Vikings in an authentic setting.  They live in a period encampent for the duration of the event.  Each day there is a demonstration of Viking warfare tactics and weapons on the field adjacent to the village.
